THE B2E MISSION

BARRIER-TO-ENTRY'S mission is to showcase world class artists while bring to market unique executions of their practice thru exclusive limited editions and humanizing interviews.

Since 2005, Dan Tague has been folding dollar bills to spell out political anthems, pop-culture slogans and social memos. With intention, he creates imagery which draws the line between people, politics and policies by connecting the power of government spending and questioning the systemic failure to respond to its citizens cries for change. His stylized craft focuses on skillfully folding and manipulating the money to reveal underlying questions: Where does the money come from, and -- Where does the money go?

Beyond his inherent politically charged craft, Tague is questioning the personal value system of all those who encounter his work. In his most recent series, Dan sets his gaze on the fashion industry. Focusing on fifteen European heritage brands, highlighting their global commercial success and international appeal by folding their discernible designer names into his latest edition: ‘Cash Couture’.

This body of work simultaneously celebrates the deep rooted heritage of these 15 globally popular fashion houses while acknowledging their value as ‘cultural currency’. It's by no surprise that Dan has produced these photographic works as square pieces nodding to the popularity of the shape which has become the definitive universal standard found on instagram feeds worldwide. Each of the fifteen images feature the most coveted high fashion brands seen in the hands of celebrities, influencers and the ultra wealthy, all whom have access to, or can afford the high cost of owning pricey designer goods.

Thru celebrating the ubiquity of these fashion houses, he’s reminding us of the enormous cost to define oneself thru associations with luxury companies while using fashion as a power source. Herein lies the fickle nature of popularity, the significance of heritage and the art of design in the competitive global market — All held together by consumer spending.
